Dorothy Banks Morton
Dorothy Banks Morton, 92, of Stanardsville died on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at her daughter’s home in Culpeper. She was born on April 19, 1919 in Madison, VA to the late Gates and Irene Tinsley Banks.
Mrs. Morton was a respected and loved woman to her family and friends. She was dedicated to community service and was active in driving a bus, meals on wheels, helping with the Senior Center, church missions and church usher.
She is survived by her children, Violet Gibson of Culpeper, James Morton of Ruckersville, Charles Morton of Stanardsville, Clifton Morton of Stanardsville and Stanley Morton of Ruckersville.
Addition survivors include her siblings, Frances Humes and Ruben Banks both of Washington, DC, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous foster children.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Morton and 9 siblings.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 71 Shiloh Rd, Stanardsville, VA 22973 with Pastor Harrison Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to Shiloh Baptist Church, 71 Shiloh Rd Stanardsville, VA 22973.
