Dorothy Collier Morris, (Mamaw) 91, of Earlysville, VA passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at her residence. She was born on September 13, 1925 in Greene County to the late George and Laura (Morris) Collier.
She is survived by her three sons, Roger W. Morris and his wife, Barbara of Ruckersville, Nelson R. Morris and his wife Allison, and Ricky L. Morris and his wife Gale of Earlysville; her sisters, Janett Shifflett and Kathleen Hutchinson; her brother, Otis Lee Collier Sr. and his wife Maxine, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Morris; her son, Larry J. Morris and her great grandson, Cameron Morris.
Dorothy was a cherished and devoted, wife, mother, sister, and Mamaw to all. She was a lifelong member and faithful attendee of the Nortonsville Church of God for over 70 years, who loved the Lord with all her heart and served him in many capacities. From teaching the preschoolers in Sunday school, church treasurer, singing in the choir, making the most amazing lemon pound cake for gatherings, and being known as “Inspector 12” of the best apple butter around. She was also a people person, who loved deeply and treasured moments connecting and sharing family stories. You walked away blessed by her joy and encouraged by her loving spirit.
The world is a better place for her being in it. She spent many hours caring for others and meeting the needs of those around her, and was known for always welcoming all into her home and especially for her Friday night dinners. She will be greatly missed, but also fondly remembered.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nortonsville Church of God, 1505 Simmons Gap Rd, Dyke, VA 22935.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Nortonsville Church of God, with Pastor David Allison and Pastor Larry Morris officiating.
Interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Nortonsville Church debt reduction.
