Dorothy Mae Gentry, 88, of Stanardsville, Virginia passed away peacefully while surrounded by her children on March 7, 2014.
Dorothy was born on October 28, 1925 in Greene County, daughter of the late Reuben and Rhoda Breeden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tobias J. Gentry; stepfather, Robert Breeden; brothers, Herbert, Thomas and Clifton Breeden; son-in-law, Harold Wayne Shifflett.
She is survived by her children, Harold Gentry and his wife, Beverly, Mary Shifflett, Emmogene Collier and her husband, David, John Gentry, Phillip Gentry and his friend, Donna Taylor, Melinda Smith and her husband, Jeff all of Greene County, Charlotte Collier and her husband, Hollas, Barbara Shifflett and her husband, Donnie of Albemarle County. Dorothy is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and four honorary grandchildren.
Dorothy was affectionately known as “Grandma Dot” to all the children in the neighborhood. She was an avid gardener, loved to play bingo and go to yard sales. She was employed by Blue Ridge School until retiring at the age of 75.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Nortonsville Church of God with the Rev. David Allison and Rev. Eddie Dean officiating.
Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Earlysville.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, March 10, 2014 at Nortonsville Church of God.
