Dona Carol Turner

Dona Carol Turner, 83 years of age, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. Formerly a near life-long resident of the Central New Jersey Shore, Dona moved to Charlottesville in October, 2010 where she resided at the Innovations Unit of RoseWood Village Assisted Living in Hollymead.

Miss Turner graduated from Asbury Park High School, Asbury Park, New Jersey and Trenton State College, also in New Jersey. Dona’s career spanned decades of teaching Physical Education in Manasquan, Ocean Township, Freehold and Neptune school systems. In her later years she found teaching special needs students to be a very meaningful group to work with. Dona retired from Neptune Township High School in 1993. Donna served in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary; she would have celebrated her 50th anniversary in September had she loved that long. She was active in training, held various offices and most of all she enjoyed inspecting boats for safety and serving on the ships with her colleagues.

Miss Turner was preceded in death by her parents, Grace S and Clinton D. Turner of Avon, NJ, her grandparents, Florence I. and George W. Turner of Avon, NJ, her beloved dogs, Hoss and Angel and her horse Laurie Bee.

Dona leaves her two sisters Lois G. Turner of Tinton Falls, NJ and Patricia Scott of Lakeland, FL, her precious companion kitty, Mimi who shared her life in Virginia, her caretaker and friend, Evadne S. Deeds of Quinque, VA and the wonderful, caring and loving staff of the Innovations Unit at RoseWood Village Assisted Living.

Dona’s passions were teaching and empowering students, serving in The Coast Guard as listed above and ANIMALS!! She befriended them, protected them, took excellent care of them and supported Humane Societies in New Jersey and in Virginia. One of her greatest life’s joys was purchasing Laurie Bee, a registered Tennessee Walking Horse whom she delighted in providing for until Laurie’s death last year.

A private memorial service will be held in Virginia followed by a graveside service at the Glendola Cemetery, Glendola, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to the Madison-Greene Humane Society, PO Box 95 Ruckersville, VA 22968.

An online guestbook is available at www.ryanfuneral.com
