Dawson Ray Shifflett, 76, of Earlysville, died at his home on Friday, June 28, 2024. He was born on December 29, 1947, to the late Ray and Nellie Mae Shifflett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Shifflett, her husband, Edward Shifflett, and his beloved horse, Lady.

Left to cherish his memory is his former spouse, Charlotte Beddows; son, Samuel Ray Shifflett and his wife, Lisa; the daughter he never had, Patty Pridemore; step-children, Linda Seehase, Harry Thompson, and Barbara Robbins; his only grandson, who he called “Buck”, Hunter Ray Shifflett; a special cousin who was more like a brother, Butch Shifflett, and special cousins, Teresa Bryant (Brett) and Bobby Birckhead; special nephews, Eddie Shifflett (Angel), and Jamie Shifflett (Paige); special great-nephew, Kote Henry; special great-niece, Summer Shifflett; special aunt, Doris Herring, and family; close friend, Nita; and numerous other close family members and friends.

In his younger days, he was often known as “The Mountain Man,” as his passion for hunting and the great outdoors filled his life with many memories and stories that could be passed down with a family. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. His passion for music and, most of all, his family was unmatched.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, Virginia.
