Dana Reye Shifflett
On October 18, 2014, God called another angel home, our beloved daughter, Dana Reye Shifflett, 22, of Stanardsville, Virginia.
Dana was born on October 30, 1991 in Charlottesville, Virginia, daughter of Irving and Angela Shifflett.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her brother, Johnny Batten and his wife, Rhonda; nephews, Austin and Mitchell Batten all of Ruckersville, Virginia; maternal grandmother and caregiver, Nettie Shifflett of Stanardsville, Virginia; and her fiancé and love of her life, Will Manuel of Ruckersville, Virginia who she was planning to wed in August 2015.
Dana also leaves behind her aunts, Lucille Shifflett of Craigsville, Virginia, Diane Drew and her husband, Jerry of Remington, Virginia, Jackie Coffey and her husband, John of Richmond, Virginia; her uncles, Sammy Batten and his wife, Betty Sue also of Richmond, Roger Shifflett and his wife, Doris, Danny Shifflett and his wife, Patti, Dale Shifflett and his wife, Phyllis all of Ruckersville, Virginia.
Dana enjoyed the many good times she shared with her cousins, Kim Pullen, Linda Shifflett, Bradley and Derek Williams, Cody and Jamie Lee Shifflett, Kevin and Brian Snow, Tonya Drew Edwards, Jeremy Drew, Angela Polaro, Adam Shifflett, Kyle and Kristen Shifflett, Taylor and Andrew Ferguson, Dawna Coffey, Cheyenne Batten and Frisco Villa.
Dana chose her second families and was blessed to be entwined and loved by the Breeden’s and Manuel’s. She leaves behind her godmother, Janet Lamb and her godfather, Eddie Breeden; her chosen sisters, Tara Snow and Melanie Lamb; her chosen brothers, Travis and Jeremy Breeden. She treasured many childhood memories and good times with them. Other special friends who shared her life were Kendall Breeden, Ashley Morris, TJ Stanislaus, Travis Snow, Caleb Meade, Troy and Travis Legg, Erica Burkholder, The Cody’s, Sam Frazier and many other friends as well as the University of Virginia surgical staff where she was employed. She treasured the time she spent with Megan Manuel and her family.
Dana was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Marion and Alice Shifflett; her grandmother, Alice Batten; her maternal grandfather who she shared a special bond with, Roy Shifflett; and her aunt, Janie Snow.
Dana attended United Christian Academy, graduated from Piedmont Virginia Community College and was employed by the University of Virginia.
Dana loved life, her family, friends and her beloved dog, “Rocky Lee.” She loved rides on the mountains, lifted Toyotas, blue tick hounds, music, hanging out and having good times. Dana played a number of instruments. She left a special message for all of her friends and family with the last song she learned to play on the piano, “Think of Me” from “Phantom of the Opera.” She was the light of her parent’s world and the love shared with her family and friends will be in our hearts forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Evermore Farm on Dyke Road in Stanardsville.
A private interment will be held at Mt. Hermon Mennonite Church Cemetery. “Forever Barefoot and Beautiful, Goldnasty”
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association (jdrf.org).
