Carrie Collier

September 26, 1918 — June 11, 2015

Carrie Edna S. Collier, 96, of Haneytown Road, Stanardsville, VA passed from her earthly home June 11, 2015. She resided at Grace, Williams Mills Road for the past three years. She was born September 26, 1918 to the late Douglas and Maddie Shifflett.
We all will miss her and her beautiful smile. She has been a wonderful mother and friend to many. If anyone came hungry, our mom and dad made sure they didn't leave hungry. They always had a table full of food, and if anyone came they were welcome to join in.
She was a hard worker and love to can and cook for her family. Being blind and hard of hearing didn't hinder her from living a long and productive life for others.
She is survived by four children: Albert Collier and his wife Allie, Max Collier and his wife Ruby, Thelma Morris, Peggy H. Bohannon and her husband Laurence (Bo); a very special grandson she raised, Glen Collier and his wife Lisa; one daughter-in-law, Margie Collier; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There were some special people and family that made sure they would not forget her. They visited her every Sunday, checked on her often and they used one day a week to spend time with her. The family appreciates this very much and wants each of you to know how important this was to her and the family. A special friend, Tina Forbes, whom she loved now lives in Raleigh, NC. Thanks for your help. Thanks to Nancy and staff at Grace for the love, support and care of her. A lot of you touched, loved her and made her life better.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Elbert G. Collier. They were married December 28, 1935; two sons, Woody H. Collier and Winston D. Collier; two son-in-laws, James L. Morris and Harry H. Hufford; one great-great-grandson Zackery Collier; three brothers, Arthur Shifflett, Dophus Shifflett and Nelson Shifflett.
