Betty Herring Shifflett

Betty Herring Shifflett, a beloved resident of Earlysville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, surrounded by those she loved dearly. She was the cherished wife of the late James "Jimmy" Elijah Shifflett, who preceded her in death on March 31, 2024. After nine months apart, we are comforted to know they are now reunited in heaven.

Betty was a devoted mother to her four children: Martin, Ashley, Stacey, and Suzy. She welcomed her beloved daughter-in-law and sons-in-law—Laura, Doug, Bradley, and Chris—into her family with open arms, finding joy and companionship in their presence. Betty’s life was further enriched by her seven precious grandchildren: Gabe, Eli, Elle, Sam, Owen, Alex, and Annie, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Born to James and Lydia Herring, Betty carried forward her family’s values of love, kindness, and community. She was predeceased by her brothers Donnie, Jimmy, and Leroy, and her sisters Phyllis, Juanita, and Shirley. Her sister Judy survives her. Betty’s warm smile, generous spirit, and love for cooking for her family were hallmarks of her life. She poured love into every meal she prepared for her family, delighting in gathering them around her table. Her vibrant flower beds were another testament to her dedication, bringing beauty and joy to all who visited her home.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Kunk, Jenna, and Susan for their exceptional care, compassion, and support throughout Betty's journey. Their dedication provided comfort to both Betty and her family during difficult times. The family would also like to thank the many doctors and nurses who cared for her, especially Evan Pryse, NP.

Betty will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held at Chestnut Grove Church, 550 Buck Mountain Rd., Earlysville, Virginia, on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM, with a time of fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Chestnut Grove Church, 550 Buck Mountain Rd., Earlysville, Virginia.
