Betty Lambert Gaylord, 94, formerly of Greene County and most recently of Charlottesville, VA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of April 22, 2018. Betty was the second of three children born to Mary and Fred Lambert in Wheeling, WVA.
At the age of 20, she enlisted in the US Navy Waves and served as a Machinist Mate during World War II. She married at the end of World War II and attended college on the GI Bill graduating from Centenary College in Shreveport, LA.
Betty was an elementary school teacher in Prince Georges County, MD for 25 years before retiring with her second husband, Russell E. Gaylord, to Greene County, VA.
An active supporter of the Greene County Library, Betty served as President, Friends of the Library, a member of the Jefferson-Madison Library Board of Trustees and Co-Chair of the campaign to fund the new Greene County Library JABA building in Stanardsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Gaylord; son, Jay T. Anderson; brother, Bill Lambert; and sister, Dorothy Miller.
Betty is survived by her son, Mark Anderson; daughter-in-law, Lovada Anderson; granddaughter, Alexandra; step-daughter, Catherine Gaylord; and step-sons, David and Phillip Gaylord.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Grace Episcopal Church, 97 Main Street, Stanardsville, VA. A brief reception will follow the service.
