Bernice Shifflett Deane
Bernice Shifflett Deane, 82, of Stanardsville, went home to be with the Lord on March 1st , 2013.
She was born in Greene County on March 29th, 1930. Bernice was the daughter of the late Jesse James Shifflett and Katie Blanche Knight Shifflett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, Lebert Brown Deane. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Taylor and Dorothy Lamb; and two brothers, Junior Shifflett, and Otis Shifflett.
She is survived by her devoted only child, Lebert Wayne Deane and his wife Debbie of Stanardsville; one brother Vernon Shifflett of Charlottesville, three sisters, Ruby Roach of Stanardsville, Marie Drumheller of Charlottesville and Doris Shifflett and her husband Ernest of Rockville, Md; one grandchild, Amy Deane Wayland and her husband Jamie of Stanardsville; and three great- grandchildren, Bailey Wayland, Alexis Wayland, and Jacob Wayland; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bernice was employed by Frank Ix Silk Mill until the late 1960’s when she retired. She was a kind-hearted and giving person to all those who came into her life, whether it be for a few minutes or a lifetime. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, sister, aunt and friend. Bernice was known for her sweet smile, love of gardening, canning, making apple butter and cooking large meals for all to enjoy at her table. Until her health began to fail, she also loved to care for the elderly and others who were in need. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A special thanks to Dr. Brooke Bostic and staff of Greene Family Medicine for their care of Bernice over the years and to Nurse Debbie Bell of Sentara Home Health for her months of care. The family would also like to express a special thanks to Cindy Hicks, Ruby Powell, Betty Powell, Kathy Shifflett, Patty Baugher, Christine Eppard, JoAnn Woods, Tommy Snow and Jenelle McMullen for their companionship and care of Bernice. Our sincere thanks for all the prayers, support, meals and visits to our family during these past few months.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00p.m. Saturday March 2nd , 2013 at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968.
A funeral service will be held Sunday March 3rd at 2:00p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with Rev. C.C. Kurtz officiating.
Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
