Annie Marie Shifflett Drumheller

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Annie “Marie” Shifflett Drumheller, who brought joy and love into our lives. Annie peacefully departed this world at Monroe Health and Rehab on Thursday July 6, 2023, at the age of 95.  “Marie” as most people knew her by, was loved by all and leaves behind a legacy that will forever warm our hearts.

Marie was born in Greene County, Va. on March 30, 1928, the daughter of the late Jessie James and Katie Knight Shifflett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy Glen Drumheller; sisters, Gladys Taylor, Ruby Roach, Bernice Deane, and Dorothy Lamb; brothers, Otis and Junior Shifflett; son-in-law C. Kenneth Mills; daughter-in-law Johanna Pannell Drumheller; grandson Lester Glen Drumheller, Jr.; and son, Lester Glen Drumheller.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Larry David Drumheller (Sharon), Richard “Scott” Drumheller (Kim Pryor), and Robert Kelly “Robbie” Drumheller (Abigail Corle); daughter, Brenda Kay Mills; sister, Doris Shifflett; brother, Vernon Shifflett; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Mom was a devoted mother and “Granny” who actively supported her family, whether it was by babysitting with love and care, attending their sporting events with unwavering enthusiasm, taking them shopping to make cherished memories, or even making sure their shoes were extra clean, her dedication knew no bounds.

She was an exceptional cook. Every dish prepared she infused it with love. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, filled with cherished memories. She had a talent for baking the best homemade rolls. No gathering was complete without her bread, lovingly prepared and shared with others.

Beyond her kitchen was Mom’s love for chicken wings.  She had a particular affinity for the chicken wings from a local restaurant called Wayside. It was no secret that Mom considered theirs to be the best. In addition to chicken wings, we cannot forget her fondness for a cold, refreshing Pepsi. Whether it was a family gathering, a casual get-together, or simply a quiet moment to herself, Mom always enjoyed sipping on her favorite drink. The sight of her holding a glass of Pepsi became synonymous with her presence, bringing a touch of familiarity and joy to any occasion.

One of Mom's greatest gifts, and one that we all will miss, was her ability to give the warmest, most comforting hugs. Encased in her arms, one could feel the depth of her love and the tenderness of her spirit. Those hugs were a source of solace during times of sorrow, celebration, and everything in between. Her embrace had the power to heal wounds, wipe away tears, and provide a haven for all who sought it.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated staff of Monroe Health and Rehab for their exceptional care and support.
