Albert “Al” Thomas Staats, 90, of Stanardsville, VA passed away peacefully at Autumn Care in Madison, March 4, 2017. He was born on March 22, 1926 in Alexandria, VA to late James & Elise Staats. Al served in WWII in the United States Navy.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his five brothers, Harry, Wilson, Clarence, James, & Robert, his wife of 59 years Ellie Frances Staats, his three sons Larry & Richard Staats; and David Campbell; two son-in laws, JL Taylor & Al Berry; and his beloved dog, Suzie.
He is survived by his three daughters, Linda Taylor and her fiancé Earl Lamb of Rochelle, Peggy Johnson and her husband Owen of Lorton and Betty Berry of Stanardsville, 9 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.
Al was known as a sweet loving man, the truest definition of being humble and kind. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Autumn Care & Hospice of the Piedmont for their care and support during the past few months.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA with Pastor Tim Duggins officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway Suite 300 Charlottesville, VA 22911 and/or the Greene County Rescue Squad, PO Box 302, Stanardsville, VA 22973.
